TRVVP shielded flexible cable

Start with the circuit

Identify whether the cable carries power, control, analogue signals, digital communication or encoder signals. Record nearby motors, variable-frequency drives and other possible noise sources. The equipment manufacturer's wiring and grounding requirements should guide the decision.

What changes in a shielded cable

A shield adds conductive material around selected cores or the cable assembly. The construction can affect outside diameter, flexibility, termination and cost. For moving applications, the shield must also tolerate the required bending cycle.

Model examples

TRVV is the unshielded drag-chain model in the current range, while TRVVP is shielded. For nitrile PVC round cable, YVFR is unshielded and YVFRP is shielded. TRVVSP provides a twisted-pair shielded construction for relevant signal circuits.

Plan the termination

Specify the connector or gland, shield termination method and grounding arrangement. Poor termination can reduce the benefit of the shield. Keep the design consistent with the machine's electrical documentation and applicable installation practice.

Do not overlook movement

After selecting the electrical construction, check bending radius, cable travel, speed, acceleration and strain relief. A shielded cable still needs the correct flexible conductor and mechanical design for the application.
